Probably the most basic principle in photography is lighting. I've learned side lighting is usually best like in this picture. It creates softer shadows than front lighting and backlighting is really tricky because you either get a sillouhette or a halo which could be cool too if that's the effect your looking for. After dinner we took a walk to the park and Maddie loved it. I only took 70 some pictures this time!

Dinner
To practice my photography skills today, I was looking for something interesting in my backyard. Then along came a spider! He was munching on...something and we discussed in class that catching wildlife in action makes for a more interesting photo. I dunno, is it interesting?
Muffin Tin Meal
I found this idea online and wasn't sure if Maddie was quite ready for it, but we tried it out today. She got carrots, bananas, applesauce, goldfish crackers, avocodo, and navy beans. She only wanted to eat the bananas, and a couple of bites of avocado. The other stuff was touched by her hands only to drop it down to her good pal, Gracie. She also decided the applesauce was best "eaten" with her hands, smooshed between every single finger. It may not have been a touchdown (that's for all of the football fans) today but we'll definately try again.

"Good Morning!" "Why, yes, yes it is!"
Maddie and I spent our morning at the park. She rode in style in our new jogging stroller I scored at a garage sale for only 30 bucks (woot woot!). We were there about an hour and a half and I ended up taking 431 pictures! I couldn't stop myself! So, normally I would choose just one picture of the day, but how can I narrow it down to just one? So, here are a few highlights for your enjoyment...

Got it!
I try and take pictures every day. Some days you get the shot and some days you don't. Well, today...I GOT THE SHOT! I love this picture. I love how you can see the movement of Gracie's tongue with the blur and how you can almost hear Maddie's cute little laugh she has when playing with Gracie.

Angles
In my photography class, we began talking about what it takes to get the angles we need for more interesting photos. I practiced this at the Buddy Walk yesterday. The first photo is OK, but see how it gets so much better and more interesting when I crouch down on Maddie's level?

Jumping in...
OK, I've decided to finally join the blog world. I've been thinking about it for a while now and have felt so intimidated, but finally I realized it's no big deal, right? Just post a few pics here and there of the little one for the grandparents to see, and occasionally include some of my pictures I've taken while working on improving my photography skills and voila! A new time-consuming adventure that opens me up to the world to be criticized and judged and laughed at that will be lots and lots of fun...right?
